Travel & Visa Information

Entry requirements for Chile

Foreign nationals traveling to Chile to attend the III Ornithological Congress of the Americas 2027 must enter under the Temporary Stay (Permanencia Transitoria) category, intended for visitors coming to the country for a limited period without the intention of establishing residence.

This permit allows a stay in Chile of up to 90 days, subject to the requirements set out in current immigration regulations. Visitors must hold a valid travel document and, if requested by immigration authorities, be able to demonstrate sufficient financial means to support their stay in the country.

The validity of the temporary stay permit may not extend beyond the expiration date of the passport or travel document presented upon entry.

Do I need a visa to enter Chile?

Entry requirements for Chile depend on each participant’s nationality. Some travelers may enter the country without applying for a visa in advance, while others require prior authorization or a consular visa issued by a Chilean consulate abroad.

Before making travel arrangements, we recommend reviewing the specific requirements for your nationality on the official website of Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

  • If prior authorization or a visa is required, the application must be submitted through the online Consular Services platform: https://tramites.minrel.gov.cl

We encourage you to begin this process well in advance, taking into account the review and processing times for each application.

Letter of invitation

The organizing committee of the III Ornithological Congress of the Americas 2027 can provide official letters of invitation to participants who need them for visa applications, institutional support, or other procedures related to their attendance at the congress.

Letters of invitation do not replace the immigration requirements established by the Chilean authorities. Each participant is responsible for verifying and arranging their own entry documentation.
